Long ago, the place was unknown and unnamed. The first settlers, the Negritos, built simple homes under large trees. Family connections were distant, and children were named after nature. Later, Malays arrived in boats called "Balangay" and found refuge on the southern shore. They bartered goods, appreciated the rich natural resources, and many stayed, marrying locals and building homes. With time, agriculture flourished, and unity and peace prevailed. Linaon has two harbors—one in the north and one in the south—providing refuge from storms, inspiring the community to name the place "Linaon."
In 1996, under Brgy. Captain Jesus R. Gallano Jr., the Linagumba Festival was introduced and embraced by all. Today, it is a symbol of thanksgiving and unity, continued by current Barangay Captain Hon. Rosalie R. Delgado. Activities like "Kinasadya sa Paskwa" bring joy and showcase the community's unity and spirituality. Linaon is also a tourist destination featuring Sojoton Point, beach resorts, and mountain resorts.
Thanks to divine blessings and good leadership, Linaon now boasts schools, health centers, a public market, water refilling stations, and businesses that cater to people's needs.
